How do I register a new domain and when will it work?
Registering a new domain is easy to do through our website. Below you'll read the steps, and how long it takes before your website and email work on the new domain.
How to register a domain
- Go to our domain registration page and search for your desired domain name. You'll immediately see whether the name is available and what it costs.
- Add the domain to your order. Do you want hosting with it right away? That's possible in the same order.
- Complete the order in three steps: Compose (check your order), Details (log in or fill in your details) and Check and pay.
After payment, we register the domain in your name immediately. You then manage it via My Domains: there you arrange, among other things, DNS, forwarding, domain contacts and auto-renewal.
When does my domain work?
- Registration: within a few minutes. After paying, you'll see the status of each item in the window Your order is being processed. If it says Ready, your domain is registered. If it says Failed, we'll automatically try again. You don't need to do anything. See After your order: tracking delivery and the welcome email.
- Reachable on the internet: a few hours, maximum 24 hours. Internet providers remember DNS data for a while. As a result, some people may already see your domain while others don't yet. See How long does a nameserver or DNS change take?.
- Website and email: only if the domain is included in a hosting package. If you ordered the domain together with hosting, this is already arranged. If you ordered it separately, add it to your package. See Adding or removing a domain from a hosting package.
- SSL certificate (https): within a few hours. As soon as the domain points to our server, it usually automatically gets a free certificate. Don't see a lock icon after a few hours? Then enable it yourself, see Activating an SSL certificate.
Does your domain still not work after 24 hours? Then check whether it points to the right server, using the Domain / Email health card on your domain page or with How do I check whether my domain points to the right server?. If you can't figure it out, create a ticket via the Support Center.
