Chapter 8 · 8.5
Android and the Gmail app
On Android, you'll usually use the Gmail app, or the mail app from your phone's manufacturer, such as Samsung Email. In the Gmail app, you can simply add your WebOké email address alongside your Gmail address. Keep the details from All settings at a glance: servers, ports and security handy. The names of options differ per phone and per version of the app.
In the Gmail app
- Open the Gmail app and tap your profile photo or initial in the top right.
- Tap Add another account.
- Choose Other (so not Google, Outlook or Exchange).
- Enter your email address and tap Manual setup.
- Choose Personal (IMAP).
- Enter the password for your email address and tap Next.
- Incoming server settings: username is your full email address, your password, and for Server your domain name or your package's server name. For security, choose SSL/TLS and port 993 if the app asks for it. Tap Next.
- Outgoing server settings: leave sign-in required switched on, with your full email address and password. Server: the same name as incoming. Security STARTTLS with port 587, or SSL/TLS with port 465. Tap Next.
- Choose how often the app should sync and give the account a name if you like. Done.
In another mail app
With Samsung Email and other apps, it works the same way: add a new account, choose manual setup or "other", choose IMAP and enter the details from All settings at a glance: servers, ports and security. Always use your full email address as the username, both for incoming and outgoing.
Better to avoid: having Gmail fetch or forward mail
In Gmail on your computer, you can also have mail fetched from another account, or have mail from your WebOké address forwarded to Gmail. We advise against this. Google has stopped fetching mail from other accounts in Gmail on the web, and forwarded mail often ends up in spam at Gmail (see Forwarders: forwarding mail to another address). Instead, add the address to the Gmail app on your phone as described above: that way, the app fetches the mail directly from your mailbox at WebOké.
Frequently asked questions
The app says the username or password is incorrect.
Check that the username is the full email address, including for the outgoing server. Test the password in webmail (see Opening webmail).
The app reports a certificate problem.
Use your package's server name as the incoming and outgoing server (see All settings at a glance: servers, ports and security).
