Chapter 5 · 5.14
WHOIS privacy
For many domain extensions, the holder's details are listed in the public WHOIS database. This means anyone can look up your name, address and email address. With WHOIS privacy, we hide these details.
Where to find it
Open the domain page (see The domain page: everything about one domain) and look at the Advanced Features card under WHOIS-privacy. You'll see whether your details are public or anonymous, with a link to enable or disable WHOIS privacy.

Enabling WHOIS privacy
- Click Enable next to WHOIS-privacy. The Enable WHOIS privacy window opens.
- You'll see the cost. Read it and click Enable if you agree, or Cancel.
- The amount will appear on your next invoice.
You can disable it in the same place using Disable.
Not available for every extension
WHOIS privacy isn't possible for every extension. If it's not available for your domain, you'll see not available for this extension, as with the .nl domain in the example above. For such extensions, the registry itself decides which details are public.
Tip: want to see what's currently publicly visible about your domain? Use the WHOIS tool on our website, see WHOIS, IP lookup and SSL checker.
