Chapter 15 · 15.15
Printing a wide worksheet on one A4 page, with the header row on every page
You print your invoice list and the last columns end up on a second sheet. Or the list is long, and by page 2 nobody can tell which column is which. You can fix both on the Layout tab.
All columns on one page
- Go to the Layout tab.
- Click Scale To Fit and set Width to 1 page. Leave the height on automatic: that way a long list can still run over several pages, but all the columns stay side by side.
- If the table is very wide, also set Orientation to landscape.
The header row on every page
- On the Layout tab, click Print Titles.
- Under Repeat rows at top, use Repeat... to choose the row with your headings, usually the first row.
- Click OK.

Checking before you print
Click File and then Print. On the right, you see a preview of each page. On the left, you set up the same options again: under Scale, for example, choose Fit All Columns on One Page, and under Print Titles, choose the repeated row. Here you can also tick Print Gridlines if you want the lines to appear on paper.

Printing only part of a sheet
Select the cells, click Print Area and choose Set print area. Use Clear print area afterwards to print everything again.
Pitfalls
- Twenty columns on one A4 page becomes unreadably small. Choose landscape instead, hide columns you don't need on paper, or print on A3.
- Do you see a blank second page? There's probably some formatting or a stray space somewhere far away. Set the print area to just your table.
- Want to send it as a PDF? Choose save as PDF when printing, or use Download As and PDF.
